How can I capture the meaning of ‘girlhood’ through different lighting and editing techniques? I investigated this question by first writing down the things I immediately thought of when I heard the word ‘girl.’ Then, I worked on ways to capture those ideas through a photo. It is difficult to summarize the meaning of girlhood in one sentence, or even a few, which is why I wanted to photograph the ambiguous definition. Girlhood is a time in a woman’s life full of love and light, but also a time where societal expectations begin to influence her actions. These moments never truly leave a girl’s life, no matter how old she grows, but continue to live within her soul.
