Capture it before it’s gone. How can I emphasize beauty in fleeting and/or ordinary moments that often escape our notice? I’ve noticed I’m more in-tune with my environment when I pick up a camera. I notice things I would normally bypass in the busy nature of everyday life. I’ve come to realize that beauty is all around me when I make an effort to notice it. As a culmination of my efforts, I hope to bring this perspective to the viewers of my works. In the perpetual nature of life, sometimes there is only one chance to capture a moment; how can I train myself to recognize and appreciate beauty?
I practiced for this portfolio by incorporating the art of noticing into my everyday life whether I had my camera with me or not. With a camera, I explored composition, colors, and variety throughout my works. I experimented with various features of Lightroom and Photoshop to enhance the mood and atmosphere captured. Through attention to detail, I experimented with juxtaposition (stillness v. movement), symmetry, and perspective. My portfolio shows evidence of experimentation through the different processes and the different mediums I have chosen to display my work.
