My sustained investigation question was how can I reveal the mask that one puts on to hide their true identity? I wanted to break down the stigma that people should always force a smile on their face and pretend to be okay, even when they are not okay, or experiencing feelings that do not relate to the emotions they’re portraying. My curiosity grew more as I fell victim to this stigma, as I pretended to be okay even when I wasn’t. The damage this did to me mentally inspired me to use this as the basis for my portfolio project. I learned new ways to portray different sides/emotions of a person in just one photograph.
I learned new ways to portray different emotions of a person in just one photograph. I experimented with timing of the flash with studio lights and different colored gels (works 2 and 4). They supported my idea of different emotions being portrayed at once, by flashing different colors on the same subject as the subjects changed their expressions. Practice is shown as work 4 is much more clear and stronger than work 2. I revised my photo in work 11 by using the masking tool and editing in another photo.
