Photography has always been a way for me to focus on the beauty of the world with more precision than just with my eyes. I can zoom in on the beauty, and crop out the less beautiful. I’ve always enjoyed capturing nature, but as I continued to shoot nature I wondered: how can I make my photography unique and different? This is how I became involved with adding reflections and other special effects to my photography. The outcome of this is a collection of the natural and the unnatural.
The inspiration for my portfolio started with a project in AP photography class where we were challenged to create a tutorial. I decided to experiment with reflection from a phone screen. The outcome was photo #1, the red floating tree. The tree on its own is beautiful, but adding the reflection makes the photo more dramatic and mysterious. I loved the photos I made with this method so much, I decided to base my portfolio around it. I also used this method to create a natural fade effect, like in photo #10 and #3. This portfolio has taught me so much about the art of photography and how to view the world through a different perspective, I will remember the techniques I learned for the rest of my life.
