Emotions are hidden; time exposes truth. I wanted to show hidden emotion through a long exposure. I asked myself the question: How can I show emotion by using a long exposure? By capturing double images within one exposure, I could examine how we act around others versus how we act just as ourselves. For photo 7 I had the model dance as if no one was watching in order to show how different we act when we are comfortable or alone versus how we hide who we truly are around others. I wanted to show how time exposes who we are on the inside. Photos 3, 5, 9, and 11 all demonstrate the facade shown on the outside, but as time (or the exposure) goes by you can see the true emotions and feelings in the background. By flashing the studio lights multiple times within one exposure, I can capture multiple emotions within one photo. The longer the exposure (or time), the more emotions seen or exposed. For photo 11, I wanted to use a self portrait to show my two selfs; the person I see myself as and the person that others see me as. By using a longer exposure I was able to fully capture and examine the multiple emotions, either seen or hidden, within each person or photo taken.
