It is the little things that get you game ready; the stick, hair, gear. But a big part of it is laughing and having a good time while listening to hype up music. Bus rides do not seem long when you are giggling next to your best friends and teammates. Before every game, we put our hands in together to remind ourselves that we will play for the girls we love: our teammates.
For my senior season, I wanted to document what playing for my high school lacrosse team was really like; specifically how we prepare for games. Photo 1 really captures how fun this team can be. Before games, we jump up and down, flip our hair and jam out to music. Photo 5 is the first photo I took in the series and where I got the idea of documenting the behind the scenes of the lacrosse team. The team was on a long bus ride and even on those, you can find us giggling the whole way down. Photo 11 demonstrates something we do before every game, running down the line taping each other's sticks. This is one of the ways we get each other excited for the game. Photo 12 is one of the last things we do before taking the field. This was a moment I really wanted to capture. It is in this moment the team comes together, holding a teammates hand and tells that teammate, “I love you, I trust you, and I will play for you.” A powerful phrase that I hope is behind all of these images.
