Connecting you, to me, to us. I’m Mexican, part of my journey in coming to the US to study this year was discovering how Latin Americans were being negatively portrayed by the administration of this county. I wanted to challenge the stereotypes. I asked people that work with the local migrant ministry group if I could join in on their everyday life to show my peers that they are like any other person; ambitious, hardworking, and determined to pave a better path for their children.
The pictures of the children are in color to represent their innocence in the way society works, in photo 2 for example, the boy is proudly wearing a police badge sticker, same symbol he may be afraid of when he grows up and becomes an involved citizen. These children are all unaware of the negative connotation of their roots. When I think of Jonathan (the subject) I think of the Madonna and Child always in the background of his life and wonder about Jonathan’s faith and innocence as he faces the many thresholds of growing up.)
