How can I understand the idea of intimacy in my own life through my photography? I found myself longing for intimate connections with the people and the world around me, but had no Idea what that meant at the start of my project. Throughout the experience, I learned that intimacy is a dynamic connection that looks different based on the environment I find myself in. I also learned that intimacy is a spontaneous occurrence that is often out of my control. My work displays how intimate relationships and moments define my life and what the process of understanding intimacy looked like.
Throughout the process I experimented with lighting, materials, and edits working to create feelings of comfort and connections within photos. I experimented with studio and natural lighting, contrast, and vibrance (4,5). I used fabrics and blanket materials to represent a warm, comfortable, and intimacy within the photos and the subjects within them (13). I repeatedly practiced framing and focus techniques (6,8) and worked on powerfully defining subjects to convey a message. The cyanotype and self-portraiture work required many trials and revisions culminating in my portfolio.
