Each pass, Each play, Each win. I worked to create pieces that conveyed emotions and connections players develop through basketball. I captured moments of interaction and reactions that when put together, created a cohesive narrative. How could I create a cohesive narrative of Blair’s Basketball season? Moments can often be overlooked due to action on the court, therefore, I was captivated by moments of intensity, action, and connection. During games, I learned that there were equal opportunities of storytelling through photos of the small interactions between players, the bench, and coaches.
There is heaps more to capturing basketball than the action shots. Through my sustained investigation, I took over 20,000 photos at 15 games throughout the season. At most games, I shot over 1200 pictures, only to find 3 or 4 captivating. Through experimentation to create my sustained investigation, I explored photoshop to combine media day photos. Through revision, I chose new photos and rearranged my different spreads to illustrate the most cohesive narrative as possible. The guidance my inquiry provided me assisted in creating flow through multiple pieces and the narrative illustrated.
