As we begin to let go, life becomes more vibrant and freeing. Through dance and passion, the photographs show this dancer’s journey as she stops holding back and finally begins to feel free. Becoming more colorful and expressive with each photo, the portraits are images of self-growth and liberation.
My subject’s passion is dance and just as we feel restrained in life, she depicts it in the physical sense in image 2 along with the dark and entrapped feelings shown in images 3 and 4. The first photograph saying, “Now my mind is racing,” is from a song of the artist we play through every shoot. “But really I couldn’t take it, especially when the volume is raising,” leads the subject into an instant spiral in which she finally begins to let go after being held back for so long. Through these photos I aimed to depict the act of being able to let go through expression and the gradual implementation of color. Color begins in image 7 and continues to become more noticeable through out. The last photo, image 12, ends dark, but once the dancer has learned that she’s controlling her own expression, it no longer matters the environment she encounters. We have all experienced feelings restraint, but as we choose to let go, life can become much more vibrant and carefree.
