How has our ability to read each other’s emotions changed during the pandemic? I explored the idea of "Masked Emotions" with photography and digital editing. I realized that the social transition to masks has created a social disconnect and wanted to find creative ways of capturing this through photography. In image 1, I blended together two photos to create a double exposure image portraying two different realities. I adjusted the opacity to make sure the image without masks appeared to be a distant idea and reminiscent of the past. In image 7, I used a fogged mirror to blur out certain areas of my face so that the focal point would be my hand and the eye of the self-portrait. This parallels the fact that eyes and body language have become more important to pay attention to. Due to social distancing, I had to use myself for many of my photos and original ideas to recreate later. As our world constantly changes, I am hopeful that people will be able to reunite and reconnect in the near future.
